Our story: The Ah Ha Moment when life’s transitions paid off! The Ah Ha Moment made my transitions pay off! Over forty years I have made many transitions in life. The biggest transition was going from Construction Worker (Roofing) to woman's clothing store owner. I can hear the comments emanating as I write. How does a man without a fashion background sell woman’s clothing?! What? A Roofer selling woman's clothing?! Yes! Who would have known a construction worker that has an eye for clothing that comes together nicely, would be selling woman’s clothing. Back then, I would have been a person that would have asked those questions. That changed quickly when one day on my way home from work, I passed a boutique that had colorful, beautiful, woman's clothing. I stopped and got a closer look, and I was drawn in. From that day for once a week for 2 months I would leave work and go to various boutiques just to buy my wife lovely dresses, that I thought would look great on her physique. When I gifted my wife these dresses, she looked stunning in them. After trying them she said, "You have a good eye! I would have not picked these dresses for myself; they look great on me." Feeling confident, I did this same thing for other woman in my family. Each of them said a comment nearly the same as my wife. That was my Ah Ha moment! I then planned to open a retail woman's clothing store. I researched and prepped and in October of 2010 then dove in and opened my first retail business. At first, things were slow so did some local advertising and marketing. Customers slowly started to come in and check us out. I would discreetly offer the owners picks and got many repeat customers and they raved about how the clothing I picked for them went well for the occasion or event. Around the holidays sales skyrocketed, but I wanted this to be the norm year-round. In December 2010, I had an epiphany. I decided to add rhinestone designs to blank dress and tops. By blinging these apparel pieces out, they sold quickly. I was replenishing that section of the store more often than the other sections. It was at that moment (Ah Ha) that I decided offering custom printed items to the customers in our retail clothing store would enhance business. We quickly went from retail clothing to custom printing. I took classes on many different sectors of the print business. I started with artwork basics to advanced graphic design. Then to sublimation and heat transfer to screen printing. Screen Printing was ideal for me, because it a process print method. My construction background and working with my hands made screen printing the easy choice for me. It was the fashionable eye that made creating Pantones and color schemes for designs simple. From start to finish of every job I get excited as I take blank items and develop a beautiful result. As I am handing the customer, a completed version of their idea or vision and get favorable feedback, I feel all over again the joy that I felt when I had that first Ah Ha moment. It is that feeling that has made Express Custom Screen Printing the Go-To Print Company in our local areas. Founded In 2012 | Veteran Owned & Operated | RLTW Our story: My printing journey started in the winter of 2011 in Afghanistan when I had decided to quit my defense contracting and go into business for myself. I took all the down time I had before departing to watch as much Youtube videos as I could on all aspects of printing and the industry. When I got home I purchased my first 6x4 all in one printing system from Printa Systems, I attended the training and sold my first job to a mechanic shop a week later. Very proud moment, but also a very big learning lesson. haha. Like many printers, I started in a garage and due to unfortunate circumstances I was bouncing from garage to garage until I met my first business part and got the shop I've been in for the last 7 years. The first few years I was attending college for business management and running the business full time. It was very tough in the early years to balance everything, but I'm glad I never quit. Today we are doing very well and excited for the future. My biggest keys to success was the network I formed while in the military. To this day even having been out for over 10 years it still proves to be the best decision I ever made besides starting Sua Sponte Design. Contact: George Diaz |
